Vacuum interrupter is the core component of vacuum Switch, a kind of electric vacuum device, which utilizes high vacuum as insulated medium, achieves the connection and breaking fuction of power circuit with a pair of contacts sealed in vacuum, basic structure as shown in the diagram. when a certain value of current is disconnected, as soon as dynamic and fixed contacts seperate, the current will shrink to a certain point or some points of contacts separation, the resistance enlarges dramatically and a rapid temperature increase between electrode until the electrode metal evaporation, meanwhile the strong electric field existed among contacts, leading to severe electric field until emission and metal vapor ionization, thereby vacuum arc generated; when alternating current close to zero, metal vapor will nearly stop the evaporation, meanwhile vacuum arc plasma spreads arount quickly, and arc will be extinguished, medium of contact clearance alters quickly from electric conductor to nonconductor , whereupon the current is disconnected,ending connection and disconnection.
